Sharing a fresh squeezed song with the world feels like winning.
Being a band’s pioneer is the gold ring of the indie rock world. It has the power to sky rocket your street cred from shoe-gazing wallflower to signed-band-shirt wearing, ear plug donning, front of the line mingling hipster (tho, you’d never call yourself that.)
Knowing all that... just imagine this:
A music blogger receives a strangely anonymous email in the dark morning hours. There is no sender, no title and no message.
Just a YouTube link. That’s it. Cool...
Curiosity cheers as she clicks through. Pleased by the quiet sighs of this mysterious gift, she is suddenly yet gently pulled close as it fills her with levity and whispers potential, intimately, in her sleepy ears. She sways, trying not to spill her coffee and decides, it’s hers.
”Ok” she thinks, “who sent this...who sang this...who, who, who...?”
Hooded Stranger
Come no closer
You’re in danger
Cos I’m on fire
Let The Hunt begin:
The limited information provided by YouTube intrigues this blogger. A few clicks later and she’s getting nowhere. Hitting dead ends. She has nothing. NOTHING?! This song really is as shrouded as a “Hooded Stranger.” The more she can’t have it... she feels ... need + sigh + cool + huh?
Questions...
- Who are Mahogany Fire Surround?
- What's W E L S H • P S Y C H E D E L I A?
- Anyone ever heard of Marble Hearth Records?
We (I) need to get some answers musicurators. Curious, hell yaaa... eluded, not for long!

Carmody's "The Light of Me" pulses like life, through the warmth of a beating heart. Like a heart, it only stops when it’s given all it has. This heart can slow though, giving space to ponder the divergent pathways real living, real loving and real feeling offer. Just when you think you know "all your ways" you realize there’s still some adventure at your feet. Some more life to live. A new found pouch of starlight to sprinkle and a brighter version of your own light to shine, to share with those who can see it, feel it and love it.
“Do you see the light of me, I can show you...”
The newly released video (below), directed so expertly by Daniel Broadley, paints the picture of the multiple pathways which exist within one being. Exploring the complex balance of relationships over time.
Complex in beauty and strain. Through Liv Lockwood's emotive, connected, weight sharing, graceful, passionate and desperate choreography, we see how this struggle feels. Ms. Lockwood so poetically weaves intricate emotion into this physical narrative. At points synchronized and yet adversarial, Intimate and private. Life’s organized chaos. It's the story of living, loving and life.
I repeat my mantra, feeling is better than numbness - follow it with open eyes and an open heart and positivity will result. Shine that light and eventually the right people will see it and shine right back. Bask in the glow and...
Have a nice day ☀️.

City of the Sun, is (now) a trio of busker/stage rockers, Avi Snow (no relation to GOT’s Jon Snow despite his affinity for the color black...), John Pita and Zach Para, who have been hiking their own trail through the musiverse since 2011. The first incarnation of the band was entirely different than their current form but hey, thats life and well, very ... City of the Sun, actually.
What I mean is: life, people, reality - it’s always changing. There is not and never will be just one way. And while City of the Sun plays music that does have a definitive beginning, middle and end, the music itself is ALIVE and always building, growing and being refined. Filled with the kind of pulsating energy that breathes ecstatic life into every inch of space it’s vibrations reach, COS can be heard, felt and understood uniquely by every listener on any day.
Also, COS is not genre specific. While they do take cues from Gypsy jazz, indie rock and flamenco stylings, the tunes they create are in a uniquely COS style. So refreshing in our world of recycle, reheat and repeat.
So, as a band, the music COS creates is a guide to help light your own way, encourage your own interpretation and feel your own feelings - to a fantastic playlist. The soundscape that COS offers, Pink Floydesque at times, is so vast that we can all exist together within its flexible boundaries and remain, uniquely ourselves. Even the meaning of their name, City of the Sun, is up for our own personal definition.
Which is why it makes perfect sense that they are, in their original form street performers. Minstrels amongst us in this big City of the world. Here to beautify and usher busy, moving and ever changing life with their immense yet somehow comfortably grounded creations.
AAAAAND they’re on tour (listings and ticket info below), with some new songs soon set for release (stay tuned!)
Full. Swoon.
