Happiest of birthdays to The Cure's Robert Smith, I (liner) salute you.
Robert Smith has accomplished many noteable things in his 58 years of life. He has written countless songs, been in a couple of very well known bands and, very noteably, has been married to his drama class partner - Mary Poole - forevaaaaa (they met at age 14).
But I have something else, something more philosophical to discuss on Mr. Smith's birthday - his eyeliner.
I haven't had the opportunity to sit with Mr. Smith and bond over brands and shades (yet), but I imagine that he'd love too 😂. Actually, what I think he'd love is the philosophy that I've built around my addiction to eyeliner. I mean, you could just say that I wear eyeliner because it makes me look pretty, but that'd be so very, not me. I'm a meloncholic thinker who ascribes meaning to almost everything (to the delight and occasional shagrin of my loved ones).
But in all seriousness, eyeliner is a way of life. It's my, "if you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring one thing" choice (Ok, my first choice would be water, then my phone and ear buds and THEN eyeliner but, you get it).
We put frames around important artwork, degrees, and photos. I submit, that since eyes are the windows to the soul they too earn frames.
Now, I'm no guru. I'm certainly never here to tell anyone what to do (except if you ask me whether or not to wear eyeliner - do that.) BUT, if you wanna know how to apply this philosophy to your daily beautification routine, I'd say it's worth the few YouTube tutorials you'll hafta watch and the makeup wipes you'll surely sacrifice to get the desired look. You'll thank me. This'll change your life (ok, maybe I'm being dramatic but, maybe not... 😉).
In the meantime, let's celebrate Robert Smith's birthday with Lovesong, which he wrote for Mary, his One True Love (#OTL) as a gift on their wedding day. Aw.
