When American soul swooner Brian Owens of Brian Owens & the Deacons of Soul swoons with his Pop, Thomas, he's not just swingin' it. He's setting his sights on goals that he intends to accomplish. See, Brian Owens is a real do-gooder and when he says "A Change is Gonna Come" he means, "I'm gonna make sure it does."
Not only does Owens intend to inspire his listeners and fans by swooning songs with meaningful lyrics, but he also uses his time and influence to create positive change in his community.
As a longtime resident of Ferguson, Missouri, Owens has led by example in launching charitable initiatives.
👉🏼Through his LIFE (Leadership, Innovation, Faith and Excellence) Cultural and Performing Arts, he offers education in music, art and technology with the aim of empowering youth in his community.
👉🏼As manager of the In Unison program and in tandem with the St. Louis Symphony, he connects young people with the city’s artistic institutions.
👉🏼And in October 2016, at the first of his Lunch and Learn events to connect young participants with veteran artists, he hosted more than 100 students and some adults in a Q&A with the vocal group Take 6, in partnership with the Symphony and under the umbrella of Owens’ newly formed Sterling Bank for LIFE Community partnership and emerging All Star Clinics program.
👏🏼🤘🏼👏🏼🤘🏼👏🏼🤘🏼Wow.
So when a man like Brian Owens, with a heart and soul like that, sings music with heart and soul like this... you gotta stand up (literally and figuratively) & pay attention.
Here... hear the first single off Mr. Owens latest album Soul of Ferguson (Feb. 2017). It's a duet between Owens and famed vocalist Michael McDonald called "For You" and its all that, I promise.
