In July of this year, Australian neo-psychedelic/hip hop/disco collective, The Avalanches, released their second studio album entitled,"Wildflower”, which features extensive sampling from ‘60s psychedelia, relates to the era through themes of counterculture and anti-establishment. As described by band member, Robbie Chatter, "Wildflower’s” structure is a road trip from a hyperrealisticurban environment to somewhere remote and far away while on LSD.
The second track on the album, "Because I'm Me" feat. Sonny Cheeba, half of Da Bronx hip-hop duo Camp Lo, rings of early Jackson Five charm and the video agrees. They've got this young Mike-alike dancing in the Fordham subway station backed by an in-step horn section. It's a groovy sorta endearing.
