I love Thanksgiving.... Thyme and cinnamon, burgundy sweaters, cozy fires, awkward reunion basketball games ... and of course friends and family. There are a few days that are preset in our lifetime calendars for reflection, appreciation, sharing and family. We get together with friends and/or family (our Clan of choice) and, if all goes well, allow ourselves to feel connected, be warmed by the relationships in our lives and analyze the growth that has taken place from year to year. It helps us to, hopefully, appreciate the changes that life has brought from year to year.
Mr. Booker T. Jones
So, that brings us to one of my favorite musical Clans, The Roots, from Philly Pa. These boys never ever disappoint in their collaborations with each other and the musical all-stars with whom they choose to connect and create. So, when they put their vibes together with Mr. Booker T. Jones, his groovy Hammond and the melodies of Ms. Lauryn Hill's "Everything is Everything" I am filled with... gratitude and appreciation.
Even the lyrics of this particular jam help me to wax poetic and get into the Thanksgiving mood.
Poet, singer, and actress Ms. Lauryn Hill
"Everything is everything
What will be will be
After winter must come spring
Everything is everything
Change comes eventually"
Reminds me of a Thanksgiving soiree par excellence with all the right people in the right place at the right time.
The Roots
Sharing, collaboration, memories and warmth.
Cheers to my peers.
