I love the Berklee Indian Ensemble's version of A.R. Rahman's "Jiya Jale" so much that I am now fluent in Hindi. Ok, I'm exaggerating, sorta 😂, tho I have gotten to the point where I can confidently sing along as soloists Ishita Sinha, Harshitha Krishnan, Nalini Krishnan and Rohith Santosh Jayaraman warble and croon.
The instrumental arrangement, slanted slightly more towards a jazzy organic sound than its original Bollywood take feels so right in my ears - I can safely say that I've never enjoyed a Bollywood track as much as this version.
The Berklee Indian Ensemble, founded in 2011 by Annette Philip seeks to educate themselves and their audiences. Their next big show is on December 7th @ The Berklee Performance Center. Contribute to the vision by emailing: indiaexchange@berklee.edu.
You'll see... take a trip to India with me.
