To honor the birthdate of Ms. Nina Simone, Jazzy soul singer, civil rights activist and preachers daughter extraordinaire I'd like to share one of my many favorite of Ms. Simone's swooners.
Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, written in 1964 for Ms. Simone by: Bennie Benjamin, Gloria Caldwell and Sol Marcus was thought by many to carry the subtext of the American Civil Rights Movement. Especially that which concerned much of Ms. Simone's work of the time. [2]
And, in addition to its historical context... it's just a darn good song.
