Oh come on... you've heard this one before... what do you get when you mix an Israeli Qawwali composer, a Radiohead guitarist and a room full of musicians from Rajasthan... well let's see :
Shye_Ben_Tzur is an Israeli poet and world music composer who blows me away everytime. His speciality is called Qawwali, an example of which, linked below, is his composition entitied, "Alchemy ".
Qawwali قوّالی is a form of Sufidevotional music popular in South Asia: in the Punjab and Sindh regions of Pakistan; in Hyderabad, Delhi in India as well as Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet and many parts of Bangladesh. It is part of a musical tradition that stretches back for more than 700 years. And now, through Ben-Tzur its gone slightly fusion, in the best way.
In 2015, Ben Tzur recorded an album with British guitarist and composer Jonny Greenwood (of Radiohead), Itamar Doari percussionist and member of the Avishai_Cohen Trio, and a group of Indian musicians at the 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort in the Indian state of Rajasthan.
A film by Paul Thomas Anderson documenting this musical convergence called, Junun, premiered at the 2015 New York Film Festival.
It's just so perfect,
