Happy Birthday to The Rev. Al Green

Preach

Happy birthday to The Reverend Al Green,  "one of the most gifted purveyors of soul music". [2] (According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - not too shabby...)

Rev. Green really lived it up (and down).  By the time he was 20, Green had already:

✅ Sung with his family in a gospel group

✅ Gotten kicked out of his parents' house for listening to hip-shakin crooners Jackie Wilson and Elvis Presley

✅ Moved in with his first girlfriend, (a prostitute)

&

✅ Formed his own group, the Soul Mates, who scored a minor hit in 1967 with "Back Up Train"

It wasn't always smooth sailing but, when you're cool... life rarely is... and maaaan, Green is cool.

Happiest of Birthdays to the last of the great OG soul singers!
