Jazz 101 Cassandra Wilson "Caravan"
As I go through my day, flitting to-and-fro, friends and aquatences wanna talk about music. Mostly, I'm sure, because they know I'm an addict and they're curious about this world in which I live... about the glimmer in my eye.
And then they break it to me...
"I don't know much about jazz..." they say.
"I've never really liked jazz that much..." they apologize.
And, I know... as a friend reminded me, that real jazz lovers are few and far between. BUT, it doesn't hafta be that way! Especially because jazz is just soooo good!
So, here's a step in the right direction. "Caravan", written by Juan Tizol and Duke Ellington (1936) played by:
- Cassandra Wilson - Vocals
- Marvin Sewell - Guitar
- Jon Batiste - Keys
- Reginald Veal - Double Bass
- Lekan Babalola - Percussion
- Herlin Riley - Drums
Let this one play in your ears... let it unfold. There is a certain amount of patience that goes along with jazz listening... but, the pay off is delightful.
And... it's a rainy Sunday, so, get up, get down... lessgooo jazzin'.
Love,
