"Three Idiots Create a Masterpiece" is how Rolling Stone famously described the Beastie Boys 1986 album, Licensed to Ill.  It was the first rap album to go No.1 on the Billboard album chart. Not too shabby Boysssss.. Three idiots hahaha!

Fast forward to the '94 release of Ill Communication... when, as a young Beastie Girl, I met "Sabrosa" for the first time.  As a tap dancer (think: Bakari Wilder and Savion Glover... not the clickity clackity of Broadway - not that there's anything wrong with thaaaat, just wasn't my thang...) I performed with my sister and a friend in a trio called "Those 3 Girls".  We were cool.... and we tapped to The Beasties.  

In a piece choreographed by another young dancer (wish I could remember her name and give her cred) we added our pedi-rhythms to "Sabrosa"'s collusion of sound.  It played so nicely together.  And tho it seems that there really is no more room within the membrane of this song... our taps were well placed and, like I said, cool.   I can still hear and feel the choreography when I listen to "Sabrosa".  

The Beasties created a unique and well balanced mix of traditional jazz sounds with the modern age of hip hop. "Sabrosa"'s deep rich bass lines and syncopated drum beats swirled with the digital offerings of a headphone wearing DJ at his tables, delivers a world of sound that can not be missed.
